National Woman’s Day was first observed in the United States on February 28, 1909, in accordance with a declaration by the Socialist Party of America.
International Women’s Day was first observed and launched on March 19, 1911.
In 1981, the United States Congress established National Women’s History Week to be commemorated the second week of March.
In 1987, the United States Congress expanded National Women’s History Week to National Women’s History Month to be commemorated each year in March. Every year, Congress passes a resolution for Women’s History Month and the President issues a proclamation each year.
